Sports Advisory Partners Australia (SAPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Demetriou as independent Chair of its Board.
Demetriou, one of Australia’s most distinguished leaders in sports administration, served as Chief Executive Officer of the AFL from 2003 to 2014. During his tenure, the AFL experienced unprecedented popularity, commercial growth, and national expansion, laying the foundation for the league’s ongoing success.
Following his time at the AFL, Demetriou has continued to contribute to Australian business and community life through senior governance and advisory roles, including at Capitol Health, Ruthinium Group, Baxter Group, Bastion Group, SANCTUM and as Chair of the Australian Multicultural Advisory Council.
“Andrew’s leadership and vision have helped shape the modern Australian sporting landscape,” said Ian Prendergast, co-Executive Director. “Andrew joining SAPA as Chair is an enormous boost for our business. His experience and networks will further strengthen our ability to deliver sustainable growth, innovation and positive change for our clients.”
SAPA co-Executive Director Sam Chadwick expressed his excitement at the appointment. “Having worked with Andrew as a consultant for a period of time now, I am delighted that he has become the Chair of our Board. Andrew’s insight, wisdom and intellect provides my fellow directors and me with invaluable counsel in leading the business.”
With the sporting landscape continuing to evolve – across strategic planning, executive development, legal needs, governance practice, commercialisation, and athlete development and wellbeing – Andrew’s appointment enables SAPA to amplify its impact across these areas.
Commenting on his appointment, Demetriou said:
“I am delighted to be appointed Chair of SAPA. The organisation is playing an important role in supporting sporting organisations and brands across Australia and New Zealand to navigate a rapidly changing landscape. SAPA has established an impressive team with deep industry experience who are delivering quality outcomes for our clients. I look forward to working with the team in this role and contributing to the next phase of SAPA’s growth.”
SAPA is already trusted by Australia’s leading sporting organisations, and Andrew’s appointment marks the next step in expanding that impact.
